Tombstone is often credited with helping revive the Hollywood Western, but the movie itself nearly didn't survive a remarkably troubled production.
We'll explore that story at Mescal Movie Set while stepping directly into some of the film's most memorable scenes. Then we'll travel to the real Tombstone to discover where Hollywood followed history, where it didn't, and why.
You'll experience scenes and locations including:
-
The Oriental, where Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo have their famous Latin showdown
-
The Earps' and Doc's walk toward the O.K. Corral
-
Virgil Earp's house and the "Not now, Wyatt" scene
-
The boardwalk where Curly Bill delivers his unforgettable "Well... bye"
-
The Bird Cage Theatre, C.S. Fly's studio, Wyatt Earp's house and the real O.K. Corral
Along the way, we'll draw on insight from crew and supporting cast who participated in making the movie.
It's part movie-location adventure, part behind-the-scenes filmmaking story and part exploration of the real history behind Tombstone.
The Outlaw Josey Wales

Clint Eastwood began The Outlaw Josey Wales with another director behind the camera. Ten days later, Philip Kaufman was gone and Eastwood was directing the movie himself.
Standing where the film was made, we'll explore that turbulent production and demonstrate how Eastwood's directorial choices helped create one of the great Western anti-heroes.
You'll experience scenes and locations including:
-
The opening attack that transforms Josey Wales' life
-
The carpetbagger's encounter with Lone Watie
-
The actual mercantile built for the movie
-
"Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"
-
The location behind "Dying ain't much of a living, boy"
We'll also explore Eastwood's work with Chief Dan George and Geraldine Keams, reveal some hidden remnants of the Josey Wales set, and look at the movie's historical accuracy.
This isn't simply about finding where Eastwood filmed. It's about standing in situ and discovering how he made the movie.

Tom Horn

Steve McQueen's final Western had almost as much drama behind the camera as it did on screen.
Directors came and went, the budget fell dramatically and McQueen was seriously ill during production. The result was a restrained, haunting performance in a Western that arguably arrived at the wrong moment in Hollywood history.
You'll experience scenes and locations including:
-
Tom Horn's opening ride down Mescal's main street
-
His confrontation with "Gentleman" Jim Corbett
-
The 90-second gunfight sequence across the street
-
The marshal's office interrogation over the killing of Willie Nickell
-
Horn's near escape
-
The location of Horn's final moments
-
Standing where these scenes were filmed, we'll explore how they were constructed and contrast McQueen's portrayal with the considerably more complicated historical Tom Horn. Input from a Mescal movie set historian and a Tom Horn cast member adds another layer to the story.
Was Tom Horn a failed late Western, or a movie made before audiences were ready for it? Come walk through the film and decide for yourself.
